When I was offered a spot on a rock climbing trip to Nevada, I jumped on the opportunity. Fresh out of a break-up, I had come to realize the importance of getting out of my comfort zone, building new friendships and saying “yes” more often. Traveling to a new place with a bunch of strangers sounded particularly amazing. How could I say no! Departing from Kelowna, we drove through the night, only to stopping for much-needed fast-food breaks. We finally arrived in Las Vegas… a short 25 hours later. We camped adjacent to the Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area, which was about 25 minutes outside of Vegas.
I used to rock climb when I was younger and figured it would be easy to pick it up again. Nope, was I ever wrong! On the first day of the trip, I eased myself into two beginner climbs and woke up so sore the next day that I couldn’t get out of the tent by myself. I was sore the next day the next day too. Fast forward to 5 days later, I finally was able to climb again. I limited myself to 1 climb a day so I could fully enjoy the remaining days of the 10-day trip.
